COURSE OVERVIEW
The SSI Specialty Instructor rating equips dive professionals with the skills, knowledge, and resources to teach one or more SSI Specialty Programs. This rating allows instructors to expand their teaching portfolio, increase their versatility, and offer a wider range of training options to students. By adding specialty programs such as Deep Diving, Navigation, Night Diving, or Enriched Air Nitrox, you can enhance diver safety, confidence, and enjoyment while meeting the growing demand for advanced training opportunities.
Through a combination of academic workshops, in-water training, and program-specific skill development, you will learn effective techniques for delivering engaging and safe specialty courses. The program emphasises SSI’s teaching philosophy, standards, and procedures, ensuring you can confidently plan and conduct specialty training anywhere in the world. To complete your SSI Specialty Instructor rating you will:
Read the applicable parts of the SSI Training Standards Complete the digital learning materials
Review the instructor manual, PEGs, and cue cards
Review the final exam
Prepare an academic teaching session as directed, and following the Academic Teaching Evaluation form and criteria
Prepare an in-water teaching session as directed, included all applicable skills, and following the In-Water Teaching Evaluation form and criteria
Pass the final exam for the specialty you are applying for
PREREQUISITES
Be 18 years or older
Assistant Instructor (or qualifying certification from another training organization)
Or
Ecology Specialty Instructor
Be 18 years or older
Divemaster rating (or qualifying certification from another training organization)
