COURSE OVERVIEW

The SSI Assistant Instructor Trainer (AIT) program is designed for experienced SSI Open Water Instructors who want to take the next step into professional-level education and mentorship. This course prepares candidates to assist with Instructor Training Courses (ITCs) and independently train and certify Assistant Instructors under the supervision of an Instructor Trainer. Throughout the program, candidates refine their teaching techniques, deepen their understanding of SSI standards and quality management processes, and develop the evaluation skills required to shape future dive professionals. The focus is not just on teaching, but on mentoring—learning how to guide candidates through their transition from recreational instructors to confident, competent dive leaders.

During the course, participants engage in a mix of academic sessions, practical workshops, and real-world teaching scenarios. Key components include conducting classroom presentations, evaluating confined and open water teaching skills, and learning how to provide constructive feedback at a professional level. Emphasis is placed on risk management, instructor-level problem solving, and maintaining high training standards consistent with Scuba Schools International methodology. By the end of the program, candidates are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to play an active role in developing the next generation of SSI professionals, while progressing further along the instructor trainer pathway.
