ADVANCED OPEN WATER DIVER

The SSI Advanced Open Water Diver program is the perfect next step for certified Open Water divers who want to broaden their skills, dive deeper, and experience new underwater environments with confidence. Built around flexible online learning and hands-on training, this program focuses on real-world, practical diving experience rather than exams. You’ll develop stronger buoyancy control, improved navigation, better dive planning, and the ability to handle more challenging conditions — all while exploring new types of diving diciplines.

The course consists of five open-water training dives, including essential experiences like the Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation Dive, plus your choice of specialty-style adventure dives such as night, wreck, drift, buoyancy, photography, or others depending on location. With guidance from an SSI instructor, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence to safely dive to greater depths (typically up to 30 m) and tackle a wider range of dive sites worldwide.

By the end of the program, you’ll not only be a more capable and confident diver, but you’ll also have a clearer sense of the training options you may want to pursue next — whether it’s specialties, ecology programs, or continued progression toward Master Diver. The SSI Advanced Open Water Diver certification unlocks a new level of underwater adventure, skill, and exploration.

You must complete 2 mandatory open water training dives in Deep Diving & Navigation and 3 other elective open water training dives chosen from a defined list of specialties, including:

• Cavern & Cenote Diving

• Computer Diving

• Dry Suit Diving

• DPV Diving

• Enriched Air Nitrox

• Marine Ecology (representing all Ecology Programs)

• Night & Limited Visibility

• Perfect Buoyancy

• Waves, Tides & Currents

• Wreck Diving

A typical SSI Advanced Adventurer course will Aotearoa Dive include 5 Open Water Training Dives consisting of Deep, Navigation, Sidemount, Nitrox and DPV dives although the course can be tailored to the customers’ requests and is dependent on destination.
