COURSE OVERVIEW

In the SSI Marine Ecology specialty program, you will explore the fascinating relationships between marine organisms and their environments. This comprehensive course delves into the principles of ecology, focusing on how species interact with one another and the complex web of life that sustains ocean ecosystems.

You will gain a deeper understanding of ecological concepts such as food webs, predator-prey dynamics, symbiosis, and the flow of energy through marine communities. The course also examines how various ocean habitats—such as coral reefs, kelp forests, mangroves, and the deep sea—are interconnected and how changes in one ecosystem can impact others.

By the end of the program, you will not only have a greater scientific appreciation of the underwater world, but also a renewed sense of wonder and responsibility as a diver. Whether you’re exploring coastal shallows or the open ocean, your enhanced knowledge will transform every dive into a richer and more meaningful experience.
